Life with Charlie

We are finally getting the chance to catch our breath. What a whirlwind the past week has been. It has been the most amazing week of our lives. Charlie Aaron Jones is ONE WEEK OLD today! Here is our attempt to fill you in on the first week and give everyone the pictures you have been asking for.

Charlie gave us some scares when his heart rate decelerated during the labor and delivery process, but mommy and he persisted and were able to avoid the c-section at the last minute. Maybe that is going to be how Charlie likes to do things - at the last minute. For example, he also decided to come on his own just hours before the planned induction. He could possibly be one of those kids that when mommy says she will count to three, he reacts at 2 and 3/4.

Now at home we are settling into a routine. On a daily basis we are learning so much about each other. I know he does not like his diaper changed or being given a bath. Alternately, he is learning that mommy still loves him even when he pees on her when nursing in the middle of the night. Charlie is a great feeder despite being a bit sleepy during feedings; in any event, we seem to get through them and he is gaining weight as expected.

Paul has been a huge help with Charlie and is already the fun-loving daddy. They play and snuggle and he even helped daddy with his homework last night so mommy could get in a little cat-nap. The grandparents have also been a blessing to have around; it has made the first week go smoother than I could have imagined.

Being a parent is like nothing I have ever experienced before. Already I can't imagine how I lived without this little guy in my life.

Enjoy the pics! I think if you click the slideshow it will open larger and you can read the captions.
